trying to protect some evergreens thru this winter

i have read on american forums that using an anti-dessicant spray will help the plant retain moisture during the winter and thus protect it from drying/burning effects of wind...?

i know that there is a spray for xmas trees that i presume is the same

anybody know where to get this?

Some of the anti-dessicant sprays for Christmas trees or wreaths are not designed with the health of your living outdoor plants in mind. So be wary of these, ensure they will not close the pores totally and permanently on living plants leaves.
You should be able to pick this spray up in most well stocked garden centres.

Ahh, you should be wary of gardening advice which is not for your frost zone. ;)
Dessication of plants leaves is most severe when drying winds combine with frozen soil, this prevents the plants roots from extracting water from the soil to replenish that which is lost from the leaves.
This article, (Wind burn, Wind Damage, Leaf Desiccation and Your Plants.) will give you some advice from an Irish gardening angle.

    Yes it will.

To be quite honest with you I have never used an anti-dessicant spray in all my years gardening (never needed to), so I could not suggest one brand over the other. Just source one meant for winter protection on outdoor evergreens, is all I can say

Horticultural fleece in a sack form, it appears.
This can be bought from a roll in most good garden centres, if you believe the sacks won't fit.
