Query on import tax amount

    i just purchased 2 mp4 players from ebay coming from china the total of the transaction was 120 with 50 euro on top for postage.I hear u have to pay tax on top off that for customs or something does anyone know how much i would be ballpark figure on these items?and how do i pay this do i get charged by the postman/delivery person.

    If delivery is by post, handled by An Post here, then it may or may not get checked. If it does, you'll pay import duty and VAT. The import duty depends on the type of item, but I think is typically about 4%. VAT is on top of this at 21%. There may also be a fee imposed by the postal carrier who will pay the tax for you. Normally you get your delivery and pay the postman. Sometimes you're contacted by customs to forward payment to them before they'll release it for delivery.

    Wait and see what happens is the only thing you can do.
