Where's the best place to advertise a classic car for sale?

    Hi folks,

I have a '73 MG BGT for sale (see my other post), but have been having no luck via buy & sell or adverts.ie. :(

Any ideas where's the best place to advertise?

The car is perfect mechanically/electrically & structurally, but the body needs attention. The car is very reasonably priced @ €2500 (way lower than some of the basket cases I've seen advertised!).

    Thanks

Have you put it on carzone? I've found it to be pretty good in the past, although I haven't tried to sell a classic there. I have an 86 Porsche 911 advertised there at the moment, but I don't really want to part with it. With this in mind, I am not answering any calls from numbers I don't recognize.;)

Out of Carzone & CBG one is much cheaper than the other - Carzone I think. They let you keep the ad up without renewing the fee.

Also you should run a 20 day auction on eBay. It's cheap and you can upload all the pics & info you want, and set a reserve. When people call about the car from somewhere else you can give them the eBay item number first so they can see the extra pics and maybe not waste both your time.

I was in the same position as you earlier in the year. If the car wasn't deteriorating outside my house, I would have held on for more. It pays to be patient but classics need constant love!

Carzone is €30 and can be renewed for free indefinitely. So is good value.

CBG.ie can work out expensive if it doesn't sell quickly.

If you pm me the description, contact details and some good photos, I'll put it up on my site for you if you want.

Irish Vintage Scene magazine might also be worth it, not sure how much he charges though.

Has anyone been to see it yet?

    Thanks folks...

I've had 4 or 5 people come to look at it over the past 6 weeks or so. I get the impression that some are just out for a spin in an old car. Others seem unsure about what they want (torn between spending big bucks on a restored car vs. small bucks on a useable car).

Despite the detailed pix & description I posted, I had one guy who drove the car, liked it... but then said it wasn't exacty what he was looking for. When I asked him what he was looking for, he said "it's a bit too old... I'm looking for a cheap runaround for my wife to drive as a 2nd car - she's just passed her test!"

At the minute it's in buy & sell, adverts.ie and has been recently posted on the MG Ireland website (at €3250 - which is what I was hoping for when I originally asked them to post the ad a couple of months back)

I have another guy who wants to see it this w/e. If no joy, then I'll go with Carzone too- seems like the best option.

Dusty - what is your website?

    Thanks all for the advice

Not promising instant results but the more places you advertise it the better I suppose.
