New Sky install - no Anytime?

Probably an obvious answer to this one.. new customer to Sky, new HD box, self install last night, all channels appear fine etc. But there is no Sky Anytime menu anywhere.. How do I get it activated, or is it a matter of waiting a few days while the box downloads some Anytime content before it will appear?

When I press TV Guide, the Red button is for "HD Channels", but in the user manual it says that would be for Anytime, and that "HD Channels" should appear directly under Entertainment on the TV Guide menu.. which it doesn't..

Think your box needs a software update, have a search through the threads.

Yup, your box is running older software version.

To update, remove power from box. Press AND HOLD Backup button on front of HD box. While doing so, return power, and continue to hold the backup button until the LED's at the front light up (if TV is on Sky channel, you'll see a black screen with Software Update message).

Otherwise just wait, and it'll update itself after a few days...

Aye that did the trick alright.. only reason I hadn't done that before was cos my eBay supplier specifically put in a note in saying not to do a software update (despite a sticker on the front of the box iteslf saying to do one) cos there was no need as the box was as fresh from the factory as could be...

Im not exactly sure if everyone gets the same content , but I found as I watched stuff more of the same appeared on the anytime menu , Ive been watching a lot of HD movies , and Thats now almost exclusively what I get , along with History channel programs which I occasionally watch too.

So use it , it seems to get better at guessing what you want the more you watch it.

I don't think the programmes that appear on the Anytime have any relevance to what you watch...

If Sky do monitor viewing habits, they'd need a return path, eg. phoneline, though I'd have thought such practice would be against some privacy law, unless it says as such on the contract?
Is your box connected by phoneline?

the main problem with it is that it only shows stuff from channels that Sky themselves own or have an interest in, so you never get anything off the BBC, Channel4 or UKTV channels

Well , the 140GB reserved on my box is filled with stuff they presumably send down the satellite feed to me , its marked as watched and moved to the bottom of the list when I watch it , note here that Im not talking about what I watch on sky , just what I watch in the anytime menu , and they seem to know what you have watched and what you havnt in that menu , as the watched programs are replaced soon after.

And yes , SkyHD is connected by phoneline , installer wouldnt do a HD install without a phoneline.

I moved recently , and in the new house the phone wasnt connected for about two weeks , I got a letter telling me that all premium services would stop if I didnt connect a phoneline within ten days.

Does anyone know if you can force sky anytime on to an older sky plus box? I upgraded by older model 40gb to at least 80gb (not sure if it was 80 or 160 it was so long ago).

Sky Anytime only works on 3rd generation Sky+ boxes.

What make and model is your box?

In fairness, you're missing nothing by not having the service. I might find one programme per month worth watching on it. Not worth the loss of 80GB.

    According to this link:
    http://anytime.sky.com/faqs/faqs_ontv.aspx#faqsection2_1
Boxes with version codes 4F21, 9F22, 4E21 and 4E30 will be able to receive this service. Unfortunately those with codes 4F20, 9F23, 9F21, 9F20 & 4E20 will not.

My one is 9F21 - but like i said - I upgraded the HDD.

Upgrading the HDD will make no difference. I think the software to run each box is different - so that boxes like yours just don't have Anytime feature in the software.

As I said though, you're far better off, as you've all your HDD space to yourself.
