I am in my final year of school in the U.K. I was born in Ireland and I'm thinking about going back to read medicine, preferably at one of the Dublin medical schools. On the TCD site, it states that candidates presenting with gce A levels need four "A" grades at A2 and that not all applicants meeting this standard are accepted due to the cao policy of using random selection to choose between applicants with the same grades. I got four A's at AS in M, P, C, B and should be able to meet these requirements but I'm very concerned about this selection method, which seems irrational to me. However, from other posts on the forum, I get the impression that not many applicants who get four A's at A2 are rejected. Would I be wrong in thinking this? Any advice would be much appreciated.

Unfortunately many are rejected. It's because of the distribution of UK students who get AAAA compared with how many Irish students get 570+ points is much greater. AAAA has been equalised as being between 510 and 600 points. So it does boil down to random selection for courses requiring above 510 points.

iirc you will have to pay full fees unless you have been resident in Ireland for the past 3 years. Which is 12-15,000 euro per year I think!
