Hi, I'm an American student applying to DCU for next year. I'm applying to the International Business w/ Spanish and German program. Just wondering how good my odds are of being accepted- I have had a good high school record, lots of honors classes and high standardized test scores. How competitive is admission for internationals? Also, a lot of Universities in the US have a close community feel because students live in dorms on campus. I understand DCU is mostly a commmuter school so does campus life still have a community fell or is everyone just doing their own thing? Thanks! :)

i can't really tell you about the requirements for getting in, with good test scores and honours classes i'd say you have a good chance, but i'm not really familiar with the process...

as for living on campus, there's definitely still a community feel, and there's plenty of students living in houses and apartment blocks beside DCU.
one of the best things to do is get involved in some Clubs and Societies that interest you at the start of the year, as well as that, there'll be parties on campus before the semester starts back, so they're a good way of getting to know people and building a much wider circle of friends around campus.

You also need to be aware of the grading system here. For courses like yoursscores in the 60s are regarded as very good, 70s are top class. It's practically underheard of to get higher than that. You need to bear that in mind and if you are coming on a year abroad, work out some system with your college so that your GPA isn't dragged down even if you score highly by Irish standards. you also should be aware that the curve is never used here.

hey hey. i was an international student studying at dcu from jan - may 2006. it was great fun, and the living arrangements are pretty great. campus is good fun too, lots of events and that. be sure to get involved in clubs and socs if you end up studying there. not too far from city centre either -- bus ride is about 15 minutes depending on traffic. im thinking about going back to do graduate work actually.
