When you got yourself a Tesco mobile number just fill out this form and send it in to get another free one for a friend.

Don't see any catch but I've only glanced at it.

Does any credit come with the sim?

Does any credit come with the sim?

SIM free bonus credit details: http://shop.tescomobile.ie/simCards.aspx

    Tesco Mobile Details: http://www.tescomobile.ie/

    Brief features:
Uses O2 Network (99% population coverage)
20c per min to all Irish mobiles & landlines.
    9c texts.
    Voicemail 20c per min

Free calls, texts & picture messages within the Tesco Mobile network (089), plus free voicemail if you buy a special add-on bundle: http://www.tescomobile.ie/FreeCallsAndTexts.aspx

    * In Touch 10 €4.99 – Free calls, texts & picture messages for 10 days.
    * In Touch 30 €11.99 – Free calls, texts & picture messages for 30 days.

But the catch is top-ups are only available in denominations of €10, €20 or €30. So to get the best value from In Touch 30 you'd have to buy €60 in top-ups (3 x €20) and renew the bundle each month for 5 months. Even then the free calls and texts would only apply to other Tesco Mobile (089) numbers.

There doesn't appear to be any porting options to bring your number to the Tesco Mobile network.

Thanks Kahless, well spotted. I'm not sure what's on offer is good enough to switch though.

IDEA! Could someone apply for the free SIM, even if they don't need, and just post the number here? Or maybe they'd accept sticking in 089 420 0000, the Tesco Mobile Helpline number? (It's worth a try, they'll never notice!) :D

Doesn't seem to be all that great, Meteor already offer:
20c per min to all Irish mobiles & landlines.
    9c texts.
    Free voice mail.
    Free online texts.

And there line up of phones is much better.

I don't see how Tesco are going to compete with Meteor for the crown of best cheap provider with this deal, am I missing something.

i agree with BK..tescos offering doesnt undercut meteor at all.

O2 have better overall country wide coverage. I am with meteor and find that in some place they are useless. So if i had the option of getting O2 coverage with meteor prices i would definitely change

Looks like some of their phones might be unlocked: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055172160&page=6

But I agree the overall offer is not better than Meteor, unless you've a group who want to join the network together and only phone each other! Then for €12 a month it's a bargain! :p

No, meteor have their own network. I'd say it should be rare that your phone would have to roam onto another network.

Meteor have a roaming agreement with O2 for some rural areas where Meteor's own coverage isn't great. I imagine it's intended as a stopgap measure though...

Yep - the phone switches over to O2's network when signal is poor, but for a substantial number of rural areas, Vodafone has the most reliable coverage.

On Meteor myself and I can't see what Tesco have up their sleeve in the future with this plan... Unless maybe some sort of cross-promotions where you get extra shopping vouchers/credit depending on how much you spend?

They ain't doing it to fail, thats for sure! :)

Think Meteor renewed agreement with Vodafone for roaming in areas where there was not a Meteor Mast.

They used to be with O2 but they lost the contract last February AFAIK.

I was in Leitrim back in July and my Meteor phone switched over to O2 in rural parts. The same happened on Inis Mór in August. So think they're still using O2 for roaming. Well they were a few months ago
