I decided to go nuts today and treat myself to a 60GB PS3 before they all sell out and we're only left with the crippled 40GB versions.

I'd played Motostorm before at a friends place and thought it was a grossly overrated turkey, so decided to get Resistance and Ridge Race 7 as part of the bundle (huge mistake with RR7, it sucks serious balls!:p)
I'm currently downloading LocoRoco Cocoreccho, are there any other must have demos or full games?

Can somebody please assure me that I haven't just bought an extremely expensive ps2?

The Gran Turismo 5 Prologue demo on the Japanese PSN is worth a look, and Uncharted:Drake's fortune looks fairly promising.

Sweet! I always wanted a game about rakes!
Cool, I'll have to try setting up a Japanese account as well then. To be perfectly honest though, games like Forza and Gran Turismo bore the pants off me... but I guess it'll be a good way to see what she's capable of...

Here's a question, just bought a PS3 as well today for the same reason as you.

Do you get a HDMI cable or do you've to buy one seperately????

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,920 ✭✭✭AnCapaillMor

Got to buy it, you just get the bog standard, white, yellow, red cable with it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,326 ✭✭✭Zapp Brannigan

    HDMI cables are sold seperately.

You've not missed much tman, just start looking forward to MGS4 now and you'll justify your purchase.

    Thanks. Are they worth getting?

MGS4 looks savage, can't wait for that.

If you have a HD tv you really shouldn't be using standard scart. You're not getting a HD signal so you're not seeing what the PS3 is really capable of.

I ended up getting a gameware HDMI cable from Game, but won't get to test it out for another few days (new tv hasn't arrived yet)
Is there much of a difference between the Game cable and the official Sony one?

[D]rake's fortune looks pretty cool alright, that's definitely going on my watch list...

What I find very handy about the ps3 ,is the BD remote control for it.

If you plan on viewing dvd's or blu-Rays ,it's actually a great remote. You can also turn on and off the ps3 with it aswell:)

I find myself using it with the dashboard and for downloading games etc.

Cool, I knew there was something I'd forgotten to buy. I'll order one of those as well now. I'm planning on replacing my old dvd player with the PS3, so might as well get a remote as well...

I'm the same as you. Where you planning to buy it?

Bidding on a 2 metre HDMI cable at the mo. Is the PS3 male to male 19 pin???

Just grabbed it from play.com for €23.49
Had a look here first and that seems to be a decent price

I got mine in argos for 25 euro. I didn't think play shipped electronics here ?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 16,339 ✭✭✭✭tman

They don't ship anything from the gadgets section of the site, but seem to ship pretty much everything from the games section. My order went through without any problems anyway

Deadly, how much was the HDMI cable???

I didn;t think play ship electronics to Ireland

    edit, just saw above post

Think the HDMI cable was €20, can't really vouch for the quality yet, but Game brand cables are normally spot on.

Thats an ok price. I just won one on ebay for €8, doubt it's much use. Do they really vary? There's no way to tell the quality is there?

Prob should stay clear of the ebay one?

Havn't missed much - maybe oblivion, fifa and rainbow six. What you wont miss now is call of duty 4, assasins creed and haze.

Ratchet & Clank demo and Heavenly Sword demos are must haves. You may want to try the Folklore demo too. I didn't like the first demo but apparently the newest one on the store is much better, the full game is also great if you like a JRPG with a very dark and original story.

Downloadable games, Loco Roco is obviously the first choice, and Super Stardust HD is a must buy too. If you've got a Mastercard you can grab Everyday shooter from the American store too, which is a very good game. Gripshift is a great game too, absolute ton of content in there for a downloadable (its a port of a full, very good, PSP game), if you're into Tekken then that's worth downloading too, just for the novelty factor of what could have been a full retail disc game for a budget download price, though I'm not a Tekken fan personally. Calling All Cars is good, but only if you're playing old skool multiplayer with friends on the couch. Don't think there was much in the way of other downloadable games. Lemmings, Sudoko, Super Rub a Dub are all fairly average if you particularly want any of them. Avoid Pixeljunk Racers like the plague, its awful.

Other demos, I'd give Bladestorm, Skate, DiRT, Sega Rally and the Simpsons game a go at least. You may not be into them all but they're free after all :) Bladestorm is a surprising little game. If it wasn't coming out in the middle of the November rush I'd have considered buying it.

Thats about all I can think of right now. Get yourself sorted with US and Japanese accounts, and check all the stores every Thursday evening, that's when they update.

Should've said that I already have a 360, so I will be using that for multiformat titles (the controller is so much nicer to use!) plus I have a pc for titles like CoD and Oblivion.

Do you have to pay to the download demos? Can download full games?

Demos are free. You have to pay to download full games. Prices are from around £1.99 to £7.99 (I'm in the UK, I guess the euro prices are a little higher)

The exception is Warhawk which is £20 because they see it as a more complete game than some of the others, though that is debatable.

I didn't know that. Do many people D/L them? Like is it very popular?

    PM sent btw.

I've no idea how popular it is but I'd say a large chunk of users do. Probably the best thing about this generation of consoles, tons of affordable and original games being available to download which was never a possibility outside the PC before.

Download Warhawk, well worth the money, great multiplayer game. I've been playing it for weeks already and I'm still not even remotely sick of it.
