I see Tesco is ofering 30% back on consoles today (might be for the week), they have the 40Gb PS3 for 399 so that'd work out at €279 (the 30% is received back in vouchers with your next statement).

COnsidering there's no extras included with the PS3 I'm not sure if thats a good offer or not, what do others throw in with the 40Gb PS3 for 399? (i.e if I still have to buy a 2nd controller etc. then its not much cheaper)

I saw at least 4 60GB PS3s in Tesco Tullamore along with 4 40Gb versions and about 6 Nintendo handheld DS lites.

They also have lots of PS2''s all on the 30% off offer.

So whats the overall verdict on this lads? Would u go with it?

I went with it and am delighted I did.

    A few thoughts,

Regarding the 40G HDD, I'll upgrade that in a few months.
Regarding non compatability with PS2, well I still have my PS2 and the only games I still would play on it are GT4, GTA series and Call of Duty/Medal og Honour. All will have PS3 versions quite soon (well GTA in April) so once they're out I wouldn't be going near the old PS2 versions anymore.

    Patrick,
What did you get with the console as regards accessories/games.

    When does this offer finish?

does anyone know if there are any decent 40gb deals? if not, the tesco offer seems not bad.slightly off topic here but can the 40gb ps3 be played on a normal tv?

All you get in tesco is the bare console, one controller and a standard A/V cable. So I had to buy a HDMI cable - got one for €15 in a TV shop.

I downloaded some demos etc. and bought Colin McCrae DIRT, will wait for COD4 now.

    The offer runs until Sunday.

Yep, thats right. Its not really a great offer. You have to pay the full price and then get vouchers, which of course you have to use instore. Could be handy if you shop in Tesco but the vouchers could be in the form off €2 off veg or half price toilet paper etc, so could turn out to be a stupid deal. A gimmick in my opinion.

they've done these offers before, its basically like getting a 120euro credit note for Tesco as far as i know (you dont get them back for a few months though) . You can spend it on what you want, its not made up of vouchers that you will never use. Its still a brilliant offer, when you think some ppl payed 600euro+ a few months ago!

thats a great deal best around.they did the same one around august wit the 60g and u will get the vouchers sent to u in a few weeks/months and u can spend it on anything u like in the shop(except cigs and lotto tickets afaik).depending on where u buy, its the price of 2 games.u wud have to buy a hdmi cable anyways and u can pick them up for cheap from plenty of sites same as an extra controller. think someone shud post this in bargain alerts aswel

I got the 60 gig version a month ago when they were offering 50% back. That was such a good deal when I read this thread I went out and picked up a psp slim for the wife. When Tescos put these deals on they realy are too good to miss.:D

No, they're vouchers for a cash amount to be used in Tesco. You should get the value in €20/10 vouchers, which you can spend on more or less anything in store.
Can you imagine the delivery of vouchers if you were getting 50c off Cornflakes, 25c off Nutella.....:D
