Cutting Weight

    Hey guys,

Quick question, I'm competing in a sparring competition on the 10th Nov. I have to be under 70kg for my category and according to my scales I'm 71.8 as of Monday (29th Oct) morning.

I know its only 1.8 kg (though I'm not entirely sure of the accuracy of the scales) but does anybody have any advice on cutting that weight? I've reduced my intake of food and eliminated all processed sugars, most dairy, and most fats. Also I'm still going to the gym and training. I don't mind being hungry, I can put up with it for two weeks.

The main thing is that the weigh in is at 9:30 am on the 10th and I fight at 16:30 that afternoon. I've thought about continuing my diet as is (reduced form) and then not eating or drinking for ~24 hours before the weigh in. Would this leave me enough time to regain my hydration and be in good shape (still strong....ish)? How much water and food weight can you lose in a day?

    Thanks guys!

Don't cut out fats....your body needs them to carry out various functions and produce all sorts of hormones.

Keep you fat intake relatively high and go for healthy fats like those in olive, walnut, almond and pumpkin seed oil.

If your only 1.8 kilos over dropping back the carbs should be enough to help you lose the weight.

Also, keep sodium intake to a minimum, even when it comes to the bottled water you drink.

3 or 4 good padding sessions and a couple of long runs will sort that out...

if you cut your carbs out after 5 or 6ish in d evenins completely and reduce the usual amount you wud normally consume earlier in the day you should be ok, you definitely wont have to starve yourself of food and water for 34hrs b4 your weigh in, 1.8kgs is a really small amount of weight to have to cut, you could lose dat weight permanently in that time not cut it......

    plenty of time!!!!!!!!

You shouldn't have any problems with losing that amount Bobby. I've seen that amount being dropped from a stint in the sauna alone

That's plenty of time to rehydrate. Just drink loads of water up until you stop the evening before & rehydrate with plain water after the weigh-in, i.e. don't screw around too much with isotonic drinks etc.

    Dont worry,

Your not actually cutting weight, your just loosing it.

You'll easily loose that just with extra training for your fight.

    Peace

Ya see Bobby like the lads said up the training and cut out the carbs....I made the mistake of loosing too much too quickly for my last fight ..ended up losing the fight by not eating, overtraining and sauna...you need food to fuel your body...I will never prepare for a fight that way ever again my fault completely...good luck with the plan dude!!:)

Keep training hard and focus on your diet, you have six weeks to lose 7 kgs take two off(water) the 2 days before the fight that leaves 5 solid kgs to lose, if you get good runs in and pad hard, you should be ok.

To burn lots of fat go paleo. Eat lots of lean meat/fish, lots of veggies, some fruit and not much else. Drink lots of water.

Do lots of these (courtesy of Stokes and co.) until you fallover. Then do some more.
