I was just wondering if anyone knew how to download torrents in DCU. I've seen people downloading through Azureus and uTorrent in the labs and i'm just wondering how they did it.

Could be viewing their computer at home through programs like logmein etc.

HOWEVER. Using torrents or P2P applications breaks the rules set out by CSD on computer useage on the college network. If you are cought breaking these rules CSD will take action. Torrents and P2P applications and protocalls are blocked on the network due to their possible illegal uses and also to save excessive bandwidth use.

Some people just download the torrent link, but dont actually start the downloads.

    tor·rent (tôr'ənt, tŏr'-) pronunciation
    n.
    1. A turbulent, swift-flowing stream.
    2. A heavy downpour; a deluge.
    3. A heavy, uncontrolled outpouring: a torrent of insults; torrents of mail.
[Latin torrēns, torrent-, from present participle of torrēre, to burn.]

It's possible. But as Winters said, it breaks some CSD rules.

It also slows down the network.

So if you really have to download that new 12gig Linux bundle and know how to do it over bittorrent, then come in on Saturday or Sunday to do it. Do not slow down the network for others during peak times! It's an amazing network that doesn't need a***oles ruining it for others.
