    Hi,

just need a little advice. M y partner did the marathon today for the first time. he did pretty well the first 16 miles but had to walk the rest due to exsaution and cramps.

he is extremly sore and has a few blisters ( this was expected) but every so often he shakes all over.......

Has this happened to any one? is it normal? what could he do to stop this?

    Any advice would be helpfull

    Thanks

Shaking all over is fairly normal just after the race (as your body temerature falls dramatically when you stop running) but if he is still shaking on and off the day after I would go see a GP today as something is not right.

If it continues fushion go see a gp with him. Fair play to him for finishing!

    Hi,

It happened to me in Connemara before and yesterday to a smaller extent. Getting warm proved difficult - but I've learned to pack lots of layers of clothes and layer up, with hat and gloves if available too. Its also a self defence mechanism where the cold makes the body shiver to try warm itself. A warm bath followed by food followed by wrapping up in warm clothes / under the duvet should do the trick. If he hasn't warmed up by 3 or 4 hrs layer I'd be surprised. He has probably lost 3000 cals in the marathon so its vital to eat well in the hours after. I ate 2 dinners yesterday evening - was still hungry after the first one!

    How is he today?

    Regards,

    SJ

    Hey,

Thanks a million for the reply's. I got a bit of a fright seeing him shake that bad. He had a bath, some food, then slept it off.

it makes sense why that happened now. They body is such amazing thing.

He is a still sore and blistered today but is planning on wearing his medal into work 2moro! An incredable achievement :)

    Again thanks for the advice.
