Does anyone know anything about www.myus.com
as far as i can tell, they give you a us address so you can purchase
stuff from the us and they deliver it to your irish address.
Has anyone out there used this service yet?
im looking to buy a laptop off circuit city at a much
cheaper price and they will post it to me.
there is a joining fee for around $130 though.
do i have customs to worry about?
    thanks

I've never used this particular one, but have heard of similar before. Some things to look out for would be:
A lot of online retailers only ship to the cardholder address. So having the US address would be useless as the shop wouldn't deliver there.
MyUS seem to use USPS (standard post) for delivery and not couriers. I wouldn't trust big expensive items to the US Post Office.
Customs could be an issue and there's no way to get around that. You would be liable for VAT on delivery still.
There's an annual fee for MyUS which you have to factor into the cost of what you're buying. They also seem to send items in one shipment to you, which is going to be bigger, heavier, have a larger value and stand out more to the customs inspectors.

If it's a Laptop you're after try www.dell.ie. And though I loathed to recommend Dell, you can get a half decent Laptop from them for about 500 euro.

    thanks for that
i went down the dell route already.
what annoyed me most about dell was that even though
i wanted to buy a laptop for myself andthe same laptop for
    2 others the delivery
cost was 60app per laptop even though they would all be posted
to the same address and they wouldnt budge on that one.
Seems a lot to pay. 180eu and i live 80 miles away.
I've been on the circuit city website and the prices there
are amazing tho i probably won't go down that route
    now taking customs into account.

Seems like you've decided to buy local, but thought you'd want to know myus.com does not use postal service but they use DHL and FedEx for cheap rates. You can have packages bundled together to save on shipping, or not. I like to bundle them but depends what you're buying re: VAT, customs, this tax, that duty.

You do have to pay customs, so it's good to calculate out the total before you start with a big purchase.

Black Friday is this Friday - the biggest online shopping deals of the year come the day after US thanksgiving - shop online 28 Nov for savings!!

No need to drag up a year old thread to do what looks like obvious shilling.
