for the white macbook 2.16 with 2gb ram(im just too lazy to install myself tbh) as my 3 yr old alienware laptop died over the weekend(ill try and get it fixed but it looks like its the raid controller so its not looking good)

should have it soon enough is there any absolute necessties i should do to it to

a)optimise its performance(i will be using it for djing as well as college so really cant afford it to crash)

    b) have just really useful programmes

    Hey, well done PeakOutput!

    I've just ordered a 24inch iMac (2.4ghz, 2GB ram) :D:D:D

Was toying between 2.8ghz iMac and 17inch MBP, but then it was suggested to me that I could get the 2.4 iMac as well as a basic Macbook for around the same price
...Thus solving the dilemma of wanting big screen loveliness for the office and portable cool for showing stuff to clients.

I'm holding off on the laptop 'til we see if the rumoured macbook update happens. The PC lappy will do until then!

    Can't wait!

    Enjoy

    -C

Same specs and use as I use mine for, Peaky. I just wanted the RAM in so I knew it was done 100% right and ready to go. Compared to my G5iMac, it's supersonic and quiet enough. On DJing, go get an external sound card for it, and get a decent playback software (I purchased DJ 1800 for under €60, it's real WYSIWYG stuff), couple to a mixer and your laughing. :D

iv sold all my turntables and mixer and bought a torq xponent so sound card mixer controller all in one...loving it at the moment

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xUIi1u5OJF4

the torq software is meant to run well on macs to so hopefully ill see a big difference to my 3.0ghz p4

might give ableton a shot soon too

my current external is a targa data something or other and it has more than 100gb of music on it will it work as a plug and play device on the mac the same as a pc??

HDD should just plug and play but you might have trouble writing to it if it's NTFS formatted.

Reading should be no problem though

Don't see why an external HD won't work TBH. 100Gb is a blistering amount, how many files? Personally, I am content with the internal HD with older machines for back up; I'd be paranoid with leaving an exteral HD behind me, that's all!

I am not too familiar with Ableton (Seen it used once, that's it) but I'd advise you to go with DJ1800 or Traktor simply on the basis that they are 100% DJ only as distinct to production/editing/other uses. There is another software on freeware called "Djay" that isn't bad either; it is on the Apple downloads page.
