My brother is gone back to australia for the second time and this time probably for good as he now has a permanent visa and hes in a longterm relationship. He has a diploma but in a worthless qualification industral design and I have heard that 3rd level education is very expensive in australia and not great at that.He has a great affinety for computers and I think he told me web design would be something he would love to get into, what I would like to know is are there any worthwhile home study courses he could do while working in australia in web design?

studying a related field i would value an industrial design qualification over a web design one any day but if he dosnt like it he dosnt like it

the only people i have ever seen with success stories from home learning are the peeople on the ad's you see for the companies and i know one or two people who have gone for home learning degree in physics and home learning ecdl and neither got very far in the course

I've never heard anyone refer to industrial design as worthless, even more surprising someone who after spending 2-3 years to get a dip? I know plenty of people who have very successful careers as industrial/product designers. Not unusual for others to switch disciplines, but web design I would expect would be seen as regressive. That said, if that's what your brother wants to do, well fine. Web designers are also in demand, pay is much less than for industrial designers, but probably more opps to study web design part-time etc.

How old is your Brother? Did have trouble getting permanent VISA without even a Degree?
