Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Why do I get the notion that McGregor's wife is going to "Yoko" this trip?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 27,857 ✭✭✭✭Dave!

Yeah got that impression too... damn ruiner...

Yeah watched it the other night and thought it was strange that he wanted to bring his wife on what was essentially a lads trip. What is it with some blokes that they just can't say no to their wives? I'd be rightly p1ssed off if I was Charlie Boorman.

Actually, I never realised until they both on the Jonathan Ross show that Boorman was the main character in The Emerald Forest. Great movie.

I got the impression that it was more a case of his wife telling him that she wanted to do part of the trip rather than him wanting her to do it. In fact he mentions that he negotiated down her time on the trip to about 10 days and that she wasn't happy with this.

I don't see how she could ride one of those big heavy BMW bikes. Will they have a smaller bike for her which will slow them down?

yeah I think she has a smaller bike.
They showed a shot of the 2 larger bikes with her's in the middle.

I love the expression to "yoko" something :D

Are the office assistants going too?

Bit of crumpet in the desert.

They should had done John O Groats to Sydney. I'd say they'll have to use a lot of creative editing to make driving through endless desert in Africa seem interesting.

Well their avoiding a lot of the desert and going down by the coast of Ethiopia, Kenya etc then across to Lake Malawi so it should be good

Perhaps thats why they have shortened the series from seven to six episodes.

It's good and all but for me it's just missing that something special from the first Long Way Round trip .

At least it's on the BBC this time so no ads .

There is definitely a different vibe or something from this series. It just doesnt seem as good.

wtf @ the people that don't like Charley? Met him last year and he's a really sound bloke. Talked to me for ages about LWR as if he was telling the story for the first time.
It's great stuff, agreed not as good as the first one but still very good! That bit where there's a crazy sandstorm and Ewan's speaking into his camera: "havin a bit of a crisis in the ol' tent" had me lol'ing. He seems like a decent bloke too, compared with most of the Hollywood muppets.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 27,857 ✭✭✭✭Dave!

Yeah, gotta agree. He seems genuinely humbled every time he's in one of these African villages and the locals make him food/tea.

When's his wife meeting up with them? Or did they cancel that? (fingers crossed)

Ewan in Tunisa at the original SW se! That was brilliant! I dont know how no one recognised him especially as he had his name on his shirt!

I think whats missing this time is that they have planned it out WAY more and they have had more accompanyment than they did in the LWR. But it's still interesting TV.
