They can be good enough alright. The main factor is distance between transmitter and receiver, and the number of walls in between (walls attenuate signal).

Check Argos catalogue too, as they sell them. AEI are supposed to be good brand of video senders.

Another issue can be if you have wifi in the house. It affects my video sender, though it's a cheapie job.
