hey guys, used to listen to BBC local radio or 5 live over the internet, mainly to listen to a premiership matches as dont have sky, ie, suppport liverpool, if they were at home, i'd go to the BBC merseyside site, or if they were playing away, i'd go to the BBC radio site for that area

got broadband a couple months ago after not having any internet access for about a year, now when a match is about to start, or if i log in during the match i get a prerecorded message saying that they cant play the programe due to contractual issues

any one else notice this or know what reasons are for

wouldn't have thought local radio whould be affected by the sky/sentanta deals

was even unable to listen to a advertised progame on 5 live

i don't know so this is just a guess, but could it be limiting who it broadcasts matches to where you are located?

The radio rights would also have been sold separately. I think either today or Newstalk have them here.

Both have. TodayFM on Saturday, NewsTalk on Sunday and some others.

But NewsTalk use the FiveLive Audio anyway.

It would be explicit in the clubs deal with the local radio station as to weather they have internet rights or not. Almost always, its a chargeable membership of the clubs website.

5 Live has never broadcast Premier League matches on the internet outside of the UK. The BBC are using technology to restrict the access to UK ISP's, and therefore, their IP addresses.

If you have satellite TV, you can listen to BBC national radio for free, no need for a Sky subscription.

Its a pain allright and applies to more than footie. Its great that Newstalk have joined Today FM in broadcasting Prem games nationwide.

    Mike.
