New sky plus box, cable setup...

I previously had two sky boxes in my home, one sky plus and one normal Skybox. I then bought a Sky+ box from ebay to have two sky+ boxes. Sky set it up for record and all was fine except that I needed to run an extra cable from the Quad LNB to the signal 2 of the new sky box. I thought this it was a simple matter of buying some co-ax cable two f-connectors and hook it up, which I duely did and it didn't work. I have zero signal strength on input 2. Am I missing some step or is there some special trick to this? Is the software needing updating or will I just have to bite the bullet and pay some guy to do what I thought was a small job?

Thanks in advance for any inputs.
