    Greeting ,

I've been out of the loop as to what is good value in laptops these days. Was wondering if anyone could tell me am I gonna get ripped off paying these prices for the following.

    HP/Compaq Presario B1227TU
12.1" screen 1.8kg (like the dell XPS 1330) Intel Celeron P540 (1.86Ghz) 120 GB hard drive 1024Mb RAM,DVD R-W Intel Graphics Card Intel GMA, includes wireless and bluetooth, 943 GM chipset

    12.1" Acer Travelmate 6252 intel celeron 540 processor, gl960 chipset 512mb ram, 120 gb hard drive 1.99kg

12.1" Acer travelmate 6231-300512 intel celeron M 520 512 mb ram 120 gb hard drive

All of the laptops are 530

As you may notice this is for a small light laptop. It will be used for general office stuff and internet non sense. (Office, Internet, videos I guess)

No games. Would these play flash files ok ? Had one years ago that struggled.

these would be fine for office,internet,video...might be a bit slow if you open too many apps though.

and get 2GB (about 60 Euro) memory would boost the performance siginificantly ..don't buy them from original seller..that's a rip-off. get memory off somewhere like dabs.ie.

That's a great laptop for the price IMO! Assuming it's new

Ultraportables are very price, so those are a bargain, even if the specs are a little basic.

when i was in thailand i found electronics were more expensive than over here.

also, be careful with the warranty agreement. i got screwed when i bought my computer and it went kaput. they wouldnt fix it and it was only a few weeks old.

maybe get someone to translate for you.

I'm thinkin of buying a laptop for college. whats the thoughts on this laptop:

    Advent 8315

    - Intel Core 2 Duo T5300 Processor
    - 1.73GHz, 533MHz FSB, 2MB Cache
    - Genuine Windows Vista (R) Home Premium
    - 2GB Memory
    - 120GB Hard Drive
    - DVD ReWriter MultiDrive
    - 15.4" Widescreen Display
    - 128MB Intel UMA 950 Graphics
    - Wireless Enabled
    - Battery Up to 3 Hours

    Price: £479stg around €685

any comments. i know it's not much use for even light gaming with intergrated graphics.....but other than that seems alright.

At the moment you won't get a similar specced one on dell for that price. You might want to wait until the new offers come in next month though.

i would likedto get a vostro, like the 1400. but some are just out of my price reach. if you know what your looking for, you can get the odd good deal in places like pc world in the lower price range anyway, as long as you don't let the sales team talk to you at all!!!
