CD player for Avensis

I bought a 02 avensis a few days ago. It has a tape player rather than a CD player. Do any of you guys know if its possible to get a CD player installed because it doesn't look like a standard CD player that you would buy would fit in the space on the dash.
Would I have to get a Toyota CD player?

    Thanks.

You have a Terra model I presume (No sunroof or aircon) you have 3 options

    1) swap the bottom half of your unit with a toyota CD player bottom half from an Aura or Luna model (direct swap)
    like this one:

    This one is under €100

    2) get a Toyota boot mounted CD changer and keep your casette unit in the dash

    3) get a facia adaptor and an adaptor lead and fit your choice of CD unit.

I would recommend getting an original Toyota CD bottom half, as the top half fitted to your dash at the moment also has the clock display, thermometer and the trip computer built into it.

    Thanks Colm, excellent advise.
Ye I think I'll just get the bottom half like you suggested. Is it difficult to change or do i need any special tools for removing the old one?

    Thanks a lot.

No specialist tools required, just click off the dash form around the radio and unscrew it.
the 2 halves of the stereo just click together from what I remember.

isnt the 02 avenis the older one that doesnt need a facia adapter? if yours is then all you need is an after market stereo that you can just fit in with a wiring adapter, you'll find toyota will want a fortune for that CD player above.,

No, they stopped making that dash in 2001.

I would try getting one from eBay or a scrap yard. They are quite expensive new.
