I have an engine in Bournemouth that I need to have shipped over here.

Anyone know of a company that handles such items?

Contact Signet Int. in Berks., 0044 870 7706844, they will collect anywhere once its on a pallet and deliver to your door. Very reasonable for an engine, just call them and give credit card details, location and tel contact and they will do the rest.

$200 suggested seems expensive to me.

Yeah, I wasn't too happy about that, probably could have got it cheaper but I had put it off for so long trying to get a better price that
I eventually gave up and got it over and done with.
I think the total was €186ish

I'd have thought that a pallet by surface with the likes of TNT would be far less than €200

I had a XK engine (very heavy 6 cyl) shipped from the UK to France for around £300. It was a specialist company (their name escapes me) who is the shipper for VSE engine restorers http://www.vse-engines.com/. You can give VSE a call, they will happily pass the tip.

They only required that the sump be drained. They wrapped it in plastic and paletted it themselves. Top notch service. On time and on the money.

The delivery was a problem as the genius at the other end simply "forgot" to bring a forklift to offload the lump. Eventually, they dropped the crate on the kerb and left, without even calling me... mind anybody who would have tried to move that parcel, would have had a surprise... All ended well.
