Seat belt limit switch.

    A technical question.

My mate replaced the front seat belt in his 1990 Toyota Corolla.

He could not reel out the seat belt from the new unit after he took it out of the box.

Carroll & Kinsella told him that the belt had a limit switch and that when it was attached to the door pillar the seat belt would work. Once he had done that it worked perfectly.

The seat belt unit has no electrical connections. All I could see of interest was a large silver ball bearing and a ratchet type arrangement that seemed to be in a different position when the reel/drum was attached to the pillar. When he took out the old seat belt unit that locked itself similarly.

How does a limit switch work ?
