Just wondering what is the best way to connect a dvd recorder and sky+

At the moment have scart from video outlet of sky box to dvd, then dvd to tv. Is it ok to effctively run the sky box thru the dvd?

Would I be able to copy from sky planner to dvd if I just connect dvd directly to tv? ie would tv get "confused" as to whether its on scart 1 sky or scart 2 dvd?

I'm assuming by your question that your TV has just the one scart socket.
If so then there should be no problem running the sky through the DVD recorder. Most DVD recorders have scart loop through, so the signal from the Sky box should get through to the TV. However when you switch on the DVD it will take over and input the signal from the tuner or disc. To get the signal from the sky box with the DVD on, you'll have to put it on to one of the AV inputs. (Press the ch. down button till you get to AV1/AV2 etc). The 'copy' function on your sky planner lets you record unprotected programs to DVD.

    Thanks for that.
The tv has 2 scart imputs.
It seems to work fine now the way I have it, just wondering if I change to putting sky directly on scart 1 (on tv) and dvd directly on scart 2 (tv) will it make it slightly more difficult to copy from the sky + recorded programs. ie if play something from sky planner then press record on dvd does scart 2 automatically know it is to record the imput that is coming from scart 1??
When press record (or indeed power up) on dvd surely just get the dvd screen on the tv?

Yeah that'll work ok. Only one of the scarts on the back of the DVD is wired for input, so it will record whatever is conected to that socket. I have a Sharp DVD recorder and the inputs on it are marked as 'L' i.e. L1, L2 etc.
To find out which 'source' to record from, put the sky box on a 'sky only' channel (such as the sky customer chl for example), select AV2 (this should be scart 2) on your TV, power uo the DVD recorder and toggle through the channels till you get to the aux inputs. When you find the one that's feeding through the signal from the sky box, you'll know to select this one for copying from the sky+ planner.
    Hope that makes sense.

    Best regards,
    Machead.
