Hard Disk formatting issue

    I have a Sony VAIO VGN-A517M.

The issue I am having is it takes a ridiculous amount of time to transfer files (copying or moving) from the C:\ to D:\.
    I'm talking 200mins+
Transfer size's would vary from 100 MB to 16GB
USB 2.0 external hard disk is quicker!

I don't experience these issues transfering files around on my C:\

I figured it was time for a rebuild. So I reinstalled XP Pro and formatted the C:\ and D:\ drive.

This hasn't solved the issue with the D:\

Running error checking didn't find any issues.

The quick format completed but the the full format is stopped at 34%.

    Any suggestions?
