I have my iPhone unlocked on the Vodafone network, and everything is working apart from mobile date.

I have tried all the APNs listed and I get the following message:

    isp.vodafone.com/live.vodafone.com

"Could not actiate EDGE. You are not subscribed to EDGE."

    Any suggestions?

AFAIK, Vodafone IE's network doesn't support edge. Maybe you have to disable edge and leave it on bog standard GPRS?

Do you know how to disable edge?

Think they only added the option in 1.1.1, but I haven't got an iPhone, so can't tell you for sure.

    Hi, I got it working.

    isp.vodafone.ie (not .com)

    Thanks for your help.

    Heya,

I'm having a similar problem. I'm on the Vodafone network too. I changed the APN to isp.vodafone.ie, but i'm still getting the "Could not activate EDGE: You are not connected to EDGE" message.

Also having problems connecting to wifi. I can see the wifi network, but when I put in my password it tells me that it was unable to join the network.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks...

Are you using the username and password of vodafone / vodafone ?

I never had any wifi problems! Did you unlock/activate it yourself?

    Hi there,

I tried isp.vodafone.ie, with vodafone as the username and password. But still no joy. I bought the phone unlocked from unlockthatiphone.com. I have tried to contact them but haven't heard anything back yet.

My Wifi network is secured. Would that cause a problem? When I put in my password on the iPhone, I get "Unable to join the network"

Mine is WPA2 secured and it connects no problem. So far I've used it on 3 different networks, and had no problems.

Which firmware version? I believe that the 1.02 firmware needed seperate wifi hack.

Try turning off the security on your network for a few minutes to see if that's the problem.

If it still doesn't work the wifi on your phone may not have been enabled.

check with your operator to make sure your account is provisioned for GPRS/EDGE.....otherwise no matter what settings you use, you'll get nothing.

As for the wifi....an idea would be to make sure that the network isn't limited by MAC address. Otherwise you'll have to add the MAC of the iPhone to the access list.

I'm having the same problem, i've tried loads of different apn's but still no joy. My previous phone was 3g, could this be the problem (as in my account is set to 3g data, not gprs?)
I'm on pay as you go.

Nope that didn't work either. I rang vodafone but they had no advice to give. I asked about making sure my account was set up for gprs but she said there is no such thing as even 3g phones use gprs when not in 3g coverage. I asked about the correct data settings but she gave the same ones given on here before. Is there anyone here with a prepaid account that has gotten vodafone data to work? If so can you please post the settings u are using.

I still haven't got mine working. I contacted unlockthatiphone, and they suggested that I try (APN: isp.vodafone.ie, username: vodafone, password: vodafone). But these didn't work either. I figure the phone that they sold to me is faulty. They said that they would arrange for me to meet a rep this weekend, and that he/she would repair it for me. Guess what! I haven't a heard a word from them!

    Hi unmaned,

I tried turning off the network security. And the wifi did work with the network unsecured. However, when I turned the security back on, the wifi stopped working.

It looks like it was a problem with my vodafone sim as i put my friend's o2 sim into it and entered the correct settings and edge worked perfectly.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 45 dotnetster

    Yea,

I read somewhere that EDGE is like GPRS on steroids. O2 upgraded their networks to EDGE, whereas Vodafone jumped from GPRS to 3G. So i'm thinking that there might be problems access the EDGE network using a vodafone sim. Still doesn't explain why my wifi aint working...

Hi, I am using iPhone on O2, and all is working grand. However, my work email requires access to a specific APN. Is there any way to add a second APN (the wap.dol.ie one plus my work email one), and be able to choose which one to use?

i updated the firmware on the iPhone from 1.0.2 to 1.1.1 and the wifi is now working. GPRS/EDGE still aint working though. Still getting the message that I am not subscribed to EDGE... The search continues

EDGE/GPRS doesn't seem to work with the iPhone on Meteor, for anyone.

    I have an unlocked IPhone 3G and had the same problem with Vodafone, I could get voice but not data..I swopped out my Blackberry for an IPhone so my Sim was set up for voice and data, I set the APN to;

    isp.vodafone.ie, password vodafone

    That did not work

    I changed it to

    hs.vodafone.ie, password vodafone

    Which worked perfectly

Only thing; will I get hit by extra charges for using the HSDPA network?

Try using dublin/dublin as the username/password. That worked for me.

You shouldn't get charged extra, as long as you're not a prepaid customer.

You can use the 1GB ISP Promo bundle with hs.vodafone.ie
