Number Porting - from Eircom at one address to NTL at my new address

I read somewhere that number porting only can be done if you are residing at the same address - does anyone know is this enforced - I can't see why this would apply if I'm moving from an Eircom line to a voip line...

I am moving house and want to port from Eircom at my current address to NTL at the new address...

    Anyone?

At one level I can see that moving house would result in you moving to a new number (unless the new property is serviced by the same exchange and Eircom would let you keep the number). At another level, if you'd have moved to NTL in your current property, you would have been able to take the number with you no matter where you moved to. That's also the case with VOIP services. You take your number with you.

If you really want to do it, you could try signing up for a Blueface account and get your Eircom number ported to it. Then you're sorted. If you still wish to take the NTL phone service you could conceivably port from Blueface to NTL or just stick with Blueface (assuming you take NTL's broadband).

Maybe see if NTL will allow you port the number? Have you canceled the Eircom on already? If not, don't until it is ported.

just spoke to ntl and they think they can do it regardless of the fact that i am moving to a new address...hope so anyway.

on the subject, i have read that any carrier preselects setup on a phone line will mean that the porting fails - will the fact that i have registered with 13434 cause a problem - should i cancel it?

    thanks

porting worked to new address all working perfectly thanks for replies. At least it clears up the one address to another issue (which the porting form appears to suggest can't be done)
