Athy to Carlow

Hi all, my wife and I are going to for a train and cycling tour this weekend and I have a question about this bit.

I have seen there is a road that goes down from Athy to Carlow on the right of the Barrow. And on Google Earth I see what it seems to be a small path along the Barrow on its right hand side.

Does anybody know if this path would be suitable to do link both towns, or we will be better off the road?

    Thanks,
    Gustavo

sorry for the very very very late reply, there is a route all along the barrow from Athy to Carlow, it is very scenic and beautiful, passing numerous weirs and canals, i jogged it a couple of times, it was used for the old canal boats years ago , a horse would walk beside the canal/river pulling the boat. It finishes up outside the rowing club in Carlow. By road it is about 20 km but i think by the river it is slightly longer
