This is going to be a cracker of a match on Saturday sky sports are covering coverage starts at 2.30. Its a star studded lineup for the Barbarians which see's BOD captaining them [EOS is the guest coach so no need to ask].

    Any predictions?

I can't remember the last time there was a really good lineup for the Babas.

It should rightfully be an allstar team from the World Cup

I like them as there's nothing to lose, but enough niggle to make them really interesting. The Irish contingent might be shamed into actually showing up for it, unlike the WC.

Couldnt agree more. If the IRFU / Players / Provinces dont start taking the Magners league more seriously rugby in this country will go backwards. It also shows a huge lack of respect to the Munster / Leinster fans who have forked out for season tickets.

    Well said Dave!

yep....didn't realise that the games clashed. bit of a joke really.

With Leinster and Munster mid table and Ulster and Connacht propping up the league, I think the provinces need to realise that this is what they do for a living. Heineken Cups and international duties are all very nice, but if the Welsh teams are leaving you in their wake, you don't qualify for HEC. I suppose at least your international place is assured:rolleyes::D

That would free up BOD and POC then, and all the Irish, Scots and Welsh involved in the Bulmers league..

Maybe SF is the initials for the way it's correctly pronounced by the Springboks, (South Effrica!)

Heading over to london for this game actually - will be interesting to see what looks like a proper BaBa's team (in fact my first proper game of live rugby was sitting in landsdowne watching ireland- barbarians a about 7 or 8 years ago I think).

Hmmm the Barbarians, venerable institution and a great idea in the amateur era, think the concept may be past it's sell by date. Last few games I've watched have been really poor. Reckon there'a far to much rugby as it stands...I'd put it out to pasture if t'were up to me....

A bit of common sense for once! BOD and POC unavailable for selection for the Barbarians.

Glad to hear it. The clubs shouldn't be compromised by this stuff!

At the same time it's disappointing that the point of this game is pretty much nullified now though

Reckon this fixture, like most recent Baa-baa fixtures, was always destined to be a farce. If you're a top flight English club engaged in the dogfight that is the english premiership, while also preparing for the Heineken and competing in the Powergen, there's no way you're going to release squad members, never mind any big names, for a meaningless junket like the Barbarians game.

Nice idea in the corinthian era, but now a total anachronism that should be put to bed.

So no one would like to see some of the best players in one squad take on the best team in the world?..............right.

Anyway the list of players invited so far hasnt be reported but what we have been told so far concerning players is that only Chabal and Sherdian would have a problem taking part then.

Fine in theory, doesnt work in practice. These games are meaningless dead rubbers lacking in bite and commitment. Would rather see a competitive meaningful match any day of the week...too much junk rugby around at the moment anyway I reckon....

Looks like there'll be a lot of Kiwi players on the side now. They have the rest of the year off, after the world cup.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,987 ✭✭✭✭zAbbo

is it the RFU who take the income from the game ?

Does seem like a farce, and makes the appearance of Drico and POC seem ever more meaningless.

Huh? I know, that was my point.. There's no point in having a Barbarians side if it's missing the players that were intended for the squad.. But at the same time the clubs are dead right not to be releasing the players, it's not fair on anyone.

Most likely.. oh god can anyone imagine their inflated egos if they were to beat SA? Can imagine them insisting that they actually won the Webb Ellis...

No lads, you have to actually get into the final to win it i'm afraid.

POC and BOD wont be taking part. Looking more and more to be a all SH affair now.

Its a shame but got to agree that these games are a thing of the past in the professional era. Although SA seem to be taking it very seriously- they have relaxed the off-shore player rule so that those players who have gone to Europe (Smit etc) can still play in this game.

If I was an AB or Aussie I would keep well clear of this. Playing in an understrength Barbarians team is not likely to be fun.
