Olympus E-510 Lens filter?

    Hi,

I just bought my first DSLR, Olympus E-510 with 2 lens kit. I want to get a couple of UV filters for the lenses, mainly for protecting the lens, from fingerprints and damage. I was looking on www.digitalwonderworld.de and found this hoya lens. Is this enought to spend or are cheaper hoya ones even good enough for the 2 kit lenses I got with the E-510? Any other suggestions/recommendations?

    14-42mm ED

    40-150mm ED

What should you use to clean the front of a lens to remove fingerprints?

    Thanks and regards,
    Ciaran

do lens filters need an adaptor or do most lens have a standard fixture on them for locking them on?

    Thanks,
    Ciaran

There is a thread in the front of your lens in which you screw the filter.

I've never used a UV filter on any of my lenses but do use when appropriate a circular polariser, very useful at times.

For cleaning I bought one of these and find it grand.

Well both of your lenses take the 58mm filter they just screw on to the top of the lens. It's better to get a good quality filter as the cheaper ones will reduce the quality of the image as it's another piece of glass in front of the lens.

Olympus produce quite outstanding kit lenses which dont need UV filters the only real use is to protect the lens.
