    hi

i really want to get an ipod touch but am a little worried about alot of issues it
seems to have like negative blacks, dead pixels and so on. i've read on here that the quality has improved and you can determine this by what week they were made within the serial number on the box.

so has anybody bought one in the last week in dublin? what was the week number on the serial code and most importantly does it work ok?

hope its good news cus i wanna get one this weekend!!

    cheers

I got them the first week they came out. Only issue I had was the negative blacks. I brought it back, got a full refund, then went to the nearest shop that stocked them.

Gave a fresh one, with Macy Gray on it. Haven't had a bother with it since. Go mad, just make sure it doesn't have Corinne Bailey-Rae on it.

cool, have you installed any updates for it? any improvements?

Yeah i bought mine on the Oct 19th in o2 Experience on Henry Street, I had a bit of a problem with the screen sticking and brought it back to them but they said they would have to send it to apple for a diagnostic so i said i'd leave for a week and see if it happens again (so far so good). Anyway i Jailbroke it the othe day and it's great, works perfectly and now I have Mail, Maps, Notes, Weather, Stocks and a pdf viewer on it. It makes it so much more ueful like a PDA. I couldn't recommend it enough with the Jailbreak.

@amull87: I jailbroke mine as well, but I found it made the battery life go to sh1te, so I reset it. How's your battery life post-jailbreak?

Agreed. Had issues with sister's new Nano. The screen was CLEARLY titled, good ol' Apple's opinion was deal with your supplier:rolleyes: Eventually the supplier (not CompuB) gave in, but that was after much complaining.

I haven't noticed the battery being any worse, but i was readding on a forum that people were having batteries go down quickly. Might just be all the messing around your doing with the apps, having the backlight on longer, etc

I jailbroke mine because I'm going to NY next week and the Google Maps, Mail and other things would be quite useful, especially in a WiFi zone like NY where it's (apparently) everywhere.

I havent jailbroken mine cos i keep putting it off until i got my replacement unit, if it ever comes.

Was it hard to jailbreak the iPod?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,225 ✭✭✭Chardee MacDennis

hey 440 just got my ok from apple to send it back, they should have the courier out on Tues/Wed to send it back to them in Holland. Nice. You should just go straight to the support.apple.com and do it there.

not at all, it took about 15 minutes. it's all automatic now, you just have to press enter a few times and turn the ipod on and off 3 times. Just folllow this video, it's great:

and this is how to get the iPhone apps (Mail, Stock, etc) on your Touch:

well i searched all over town but only week 38 ipod touch's to be found so i played it safe and didnt get one, guess ill have to hold out for another while...
has anyone got a week 39 or 40 from a store in dublin yet?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,534 ✭✭✭Dman001

I thought week 38 were okay but week 37 had screen issues. If you jailbreak an iPod can you un-jailbreak it? Would it be possible to break your iPod by jailbreaking it?

It's highly unlikely that you'll break it jailbreaking it. If anything goes wrong you just restore it to factory settings in iTunes. It's easy just look around on the links i posted above

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,534 ✭✭✭Dman001

Thanks. How do you put a background on the iPod and is there a max amount of applications you can put on the iPod?

Not that i know of, i'd say that's a long way off though cause it's down to Safari updating it really, which hopefully they will soon.

@Dman001: i don't think there's a limit on the amount of apps you can have as i've seen videos where people have a second screen by scrolling over on the home menu and there's also an app called "Stacks" which lets you have a kind of pop-up menu with more apps on

As for backgrounds i think it has something to do with the summerboard app but i'm not sure, i'll look into it more

If you go to http://jailbreakme.com on your iPod Touch, you can Jailbreak it on the spot. It gives you links to loads of 3rd party applications and opens up the FTP so you can connect to it to transfer over the iPhone applications, it's really handy to do.

Thanks. I might jailbreak it now that I have seen all the cool apps.

Hey guys, anyone else having trouble connecting to their touch via SFTP for the iPhone apps? Cyberduck can't find it at all... I'm sharing my connection with the touch via my airport and using the correct IP address from the Touch. Have the password and username in, cant figure out what I'm doing wrong. Also, installer.app keeps freezing on me at checking sources. (I have the BSD subsystem and the other thing installed as well so it's not that either...).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 96 ✭✭Wizoom

Got it all done using the wonderful iJailbreak (written by a 13 year old :( - makes you realise how doomed you are to failure in comparison)! Brilliant program that even installs the iphone apps automatically. I have a slight problem though, is there any way to set the Touch to sync calendars with iCal? Because now I can add events, that would be a godsend.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,059 ✭✭✭Kid Nothing

try search around the forums i posted above, there's so much info there, i'm sure you'll find an answer

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 96 ✭✭Wizoom

I'm officially an idiot. I hadn't set the calendars to sync after restoring my iPod from the jailbreakme.com method. Now I have a fully functioning, glorious PDA as well as a beautiful music and video player.

yeah so how many people have actually jailbroken theirs? I've spent ages going through so much stuff, it's so interesting. i would recommend getting Customize and Summerboard apps which are both great for personalizing your iPod

Use your iPod Touch/Safari to browse to:

    http://jailbreakme.com

and install the app at the bottom of the page (Only visible on the iPod Touch/iPhone and sometimes it may hang Safari if it's busy - just restart the Touch and try again). This adds an "Installer" icon to the front page. from here you can browse all the apps available and install/uninstall them.

So simple even I managed it !!

Yeah I have it jailbreaked already.I just want to get the iphone applications on which I am having trouble with. Now I cant even connect with cyberduck.

I have the installer already and have played around with a few apps. The only one that doesnt work is customize unless I`m doing something wrong.

But its mainly the mail feature from iphone that I`d like to have on my touch.

Got it sorted. Now have to sort out the settings on the mail app.:D

    Thanks for all the help.

yeah if you're still having trouble with Customize, i think you may need to download a different one to the one on installer, there was a thread on it in them forums i posted. I'd suggest getting it, really makes it that much better.
