Sky+ RF out poor sound...

    Hi,

New to this part of the site so forgive me!

I have a Sky + box and have the RF turned on. I have a co ax cable going from the RF into a signal amplifier (26dB). Then co ax from signal amplifier to tv in kitchen via 10m cable. I can get PERFECT picture quality but sound is VERY muffled and fuzzy. I have tried signal boosters etc but no luck!

Also Sky magic eye has power when plugged directly into RF out on Sky box but no power when connected to co-ax cable attached to RF out???

Any suggestions would be gratefully appreciated! At my wits end here!

Thanks for all replies in advance! :)

Do you have any other channels on the tv in the kitchen with sound problems? Try setting the standard to "Pal I" on the tv if you can do this. Sounds like your coax or plugs are not right on the magic eye issue

Tried the tv with "rabbit ears" and their is poor signal but sound seems to come in ok. I tried setting the tv to PAL-I but it doesn't seem to have resolved the problem. Must be a problem with the sky box itself sending the digital signal via the co-ax? Will try Sky.

    Thanks for the help :)

A 26dB amp shouldn't be necessary for a 10m cable run. Remove it altogether to eliminate it as a contributer to the sound problem.

Have you tried changing the RF output channel?

Ditto - 26dB amplifier is unnecessary for 10m cable (my remote tv is fed by at least 25m cable and no amplifier). Your amp is the likely cause of the problem and is probably blocking the DC voltage from the SKY RF outlet. As per byte's suggestion, you should change the output channel on the SKY box and re-tune the kitchen tv. Sometimes local terrestrial channels will interfere, but this usually manifests itself in picture problems. As you say your picture is perfect this may not be the issue - it does sound (:Dsorry!) like a PAL standard mismatch (tv not set to PAL-I), but it could all be down to the 26dB boost!

Thanks for the info. Have tried it without the booster on PAL-I and changed the output channel. Hasn't made any difference! Sky were AS helpful as always! Will keep tryin. Thanks a million for all the help! Really appreciate it! :)

Try going into the Services/System Settings/Sound Settings and turn the output volume right down. I have a HD box and this reduces the output level a good bit, but even with it turned up full there is no distortion. May be a fault in your SKY+ box or else a software update has caused a rise in sound output level for some reason. I have seen a couple of other threads about distorted sound, but I haven't had any issues like that.
