has anyone tried either of these in poor coverage areas.

obviously 3 seem avoidable at all costs but do vodafone or 02 provide a realistic alternative to dial-up in isolated areas?

I am using o2 BB in Sligo.

The worst speed I can get is 236KB which is still pretty crap!

was using o2 around south donegal at weekend, where home is in a GPRS/EDGE area, was still getinng a download of 100kbps, still 2 to3 times faster than dial up (fastest ever got with eircom dial up was 30 something), ocasionally went on to HSDPA and got about 300kbps, have once oe twice got up to 1.5mbps at home if using in rooms facing the bay
