Good idea... should be asked in the Forums forum though.

Would it get much traffic except from peeps looking for stuff?

Who cares, i check out this page for bargains not to see a request for the cheapest spoon set!! Most requests are from people too lazy to do a bot o browsing for deals.

No real need for it. Its not like Bargain Alerts is being swamped by requests. As of this post there are 7 requests in the forum, which is fine.

There's 9 on the first page alone, which is almost half of all the threads.
And they tend to be the same ones over and over again. Cheapest 32" TV etc
I requested a seperate sub-forum for requests, probably a year or more ago, but didn't get anywhere as it was thought no one would visit it.

I agree with the idea of a Requests sub-forum, I suggested this a couple of months back but it was shot down and since then more and more of the page is being taken up with requests, its getting to the stage where people need some milk for the fridge and come on and submit a post "[REQ] Cheapest place to buy milk" ...... I mean thats redic!

well I think it is, and if you cant afford to buy milk then give up the price of your internet connection and live in a milk-filled luxury lifestyle!

My position remains unchanged from the last time it was brought up. The way I see it is, you find a bargain and you post about it here and also you help out those looking for an item too. I also don't want to be shifting around threads from the main forum to the subforum all the time (there are still those who don't use the [REQ] tag so that leaves little hope and requests lost in the subforum unanswered). Quite often, bargains are found within the requests as well.
I am happy with the way things are.

No one will check the REQ forum and they will be left stale and it will turn into one of those "insert forum name you only saw for the first time recently on boards.ie" forums.

i agree with that, but maybe rules could be introduced, ie regarding requests?

I think the forum is fine the way it is. This was all discussed before and the majority of users felt that way too at the time.

However there are some lazy and miserable gits out there who wouldnt bother their arse using the search facility which is fully operational again especially the few who have been around for a while. A quick glance at the front page or the previous page would sometimes get them their answer but as i said they couldnt be bothered. Maybe thats an area that can be looked at by the mods.

As was mentioned above there was a thread about the cheapest place to buy milk. Having a separate forum for requests wont stop that type of silly posting.

If its not broke dont fix it. :)

The rules there people should mark it [Req].

If someones puts in anything else (or nothing) in the header we as a group place a polite comment. If they ignore this free advice and make another erroneous header then I would recommend a temporary ban.

Lets not make a simple thing complicated!

I agree, anyway I often respond to requests but I probably wouldn't even look in that forum if it was created.

I’m part of the Bad Idea brigade,

I go into Bargain Alerts to avail of potential bargains, ie for my own gain. If I see a request thread along the way that I can contribute to, I'm quite happy to do so. I am not going to go to a special request thread forum with the intention of helping someone out (what’s in it for me) and neither will other people.

I furnished an apartment this year and I found request threads I posted on Bargain Alerts to be an invaluable source of information. It’s within all our best interests to maximize the number of responses we get to request threads. A special request forum will seriously reduce this response rate.

    So please, don’t do this.

Is there a way to maybe split the main page into 2 sections?

Like for instance currently say there are 20 threads displaying on the first page, is there a way of having 10 req threads show up on top, a small gap & 10 bargain threads underneath. That might be a compromise, if it were doable.

What makes you think somebody cannot afford an internet connection just because they want cheap milk? Or can't afford milk even?

It's the little things that add up mate. Some milk can be 30-40c cheaper.

Buy more expensive (+40c) 1tr of milk a day for 365 days and you have ended up spending €146 extra over the course of the year.

That could pay for TV licence, putting towards car insurance etc. all for milk that tastes more or less the same as a cheaper alternative.

I agree completely, Requests would be dead if nobody but the people making requests looked at it. There would just be numerous posts for it to be returned here.

As for looking up old requests.
Bargains get old very fast, so new requests and answers are very helpful.

I come in to have a look at what bargains are available at the minute. If I see someone looking for a cheap 14" LCD and I've seen one recently I'll click in and tell them to check out 'such-and-such*'.

If the requests aren't in the main forum then I for one, will never see them :) [/2cents]

*Don't believe 'such-and-such' is an actual shop :-)
