Is it right to have a pet bee?

I was thinking about having a pet bee in a jar, but I was thinking:

    1) Bees like to be with other bees.
    2) He might run out of air
    3) He mightn't like being in a jar all the time

What you guys think? Maybe I should let him out of the jar once a day...yeah? What do I feed him?

You forget, bees are part of a complex social hive system and if you only have one then he'll be lonely :(

For that reason, I wouldn't keep a bee as a pet.

Go for it! But - do think about getting a rescue bee, rather than going to some dodgy bee breeder. There are too many bees going abandoned and unloved and dying cold deaths out there.

And don't forget about getting him fully vaccinated and spayed!

Don't forget though that you'll need a bee licence, available from all good Post Offices, and don't get fobbed off with a dog licence with the word 'dog' crossed out and 'bee' written in in crayon :)

Also if he is a restricted breed make sure you muzzle him when you bring him out in public!!!

And watch out for those bee farms where they keep hundreds of thousands of them in little boxes together.

Awwww... bless the OP's naive innocence.

OP: get a gerbil, or something. Small, easy to keep, and they won't sting you.

Oh, and they won't die when the Winter comes.

well thx for all the replies. I'm having second thoughts now though. He mightn't live that long and he'd probably be (haha bee) happier to be left alone.

Just remember bees are for life not just for christmas.

You'll have to get up in the morning and bring it for a walk fly before work.

Have you though about possible names? What about bumble, don't know why that came into my head.

Is it hard to train a Bee ?
I was wondering if the bee should be sent to a beehavourial school first.
