Does anyone know a good hotel website where you can select a London hotel and pay in euro with a credit card to avoid currency conversion charges?

www.1800hotels.ie, but they tend to be on the expensive side!

Some of the generic hotel sites like hotels.com or needahotel.com will allow you to pay up front in euro

If your hotel asks whether you want to pay in euros or sterling, say sterling. If you say euro you get charged a rip-off rate plus you get charged for the conversion by your credit card company. It's called dynamic currency conversion and you can read more about it here -

Ideally I'd like to pay cash in sterling when I get there but I don't know if this is possible.

You can usually pay cash at a hotel if you pay a deposit on the room instead of giving a credit card swipe on check in. Just tell them you don't have a credit card. They might be a bit thrown, but it's not illegal! I've done it!

Agree with paying with sterling; let them swipe your card when you check-in (they don't charge the card at this stage) and just tell them you want to pay with cash on check-out.
