First of all please excuse me OKGIRL for turning the topic abit but my wife has had some hassle the past few days and I'm looking for some advice.

We have a 7yr old who has a special needs assistant, and my wife was told by the teacher the other day that she is not aloud to communite with the SNA and that if she needs to know anything she must go through her (teacher)

Any info would be great, thank you.

    John

Split off from the other SNA thread.

As Trotter said, this is a public and easily searchable forum - please do not post any information that may identify either the child, the school or the teacher in question.

I think that in general it is more appropriate to talk about any issues to do with a child with the teacher. It may be appropriate for the SNA to be present, but the teacher has ultimate responsibility in their class for all the children.

I agree with ArthurDent, on a general note, its the principal and teacher who plans the school and lessons for your child, the SNA assists the student in completing these tasks taught by the teacher and stated in the plan. The SNA could be present at a meeting etc but by no means should not be a point of contact to the school except for induction on personal matters initially related to the child.
The big risk I see is that an SNA can begin to get parents requesting things which an SNA is in no position to organise or offer as the teacher has overall responsibility for the education of the child in question and the SNA is a support function.
