Flies in Attic & mice

Our house is relatively new, moved in 2006. We have a problem in our attic, its floored out and used as a storage space. The problem is there are hundreds of flies, all huddled up between the rafters and the felt.

Is this something anyone else has come across and is there any deterrants we can use.

We are having a few problems with mice aswell at the moment. We are using ordinary traps with peanut butter but they don't appear to be doing the trick. The mice seem to be in the walls or between floors but so far we haven't seen evidence of them in the house. Anyone got any suggestions?

Sorry folks i just did the search on mice after i had posted, seems plenty of people are having these problems this time of year. I hadn't heard of the mint option though, as previous posters have mentioned anything is worth a try.

Peanut butter is useless! you need something that the mouse has to tug at to activate the trap - e.g. a rind of bacon.

One consolation with having mice is that you can be assured that you don't have rats. ;)

i think the flies are living in your insulation, cluster flies, plenty of info on them on google

A caramello bar worked a treat when i had a bit of four legged bother. If you use a match to melt it a bit on the trap, it makes it a lot harder for the mouse to get and therefore more likely to fire the trap.

Mice only eat cheese in cartoon's, in real life they don't like it.

You're stuck with the flies until next year as they'll hibernate over the winter.

Check your soffit vents to see if you have a metal mesh on the inside to prevent them getting in again.

You could Hoover the fly's up.

Toffos are your only man for baiting mouse traps.
