    Hey guys,

Does anyone know where I can get a cheap .ie domain name? I know they are much more expensive that other ones like .com and such. And is there any specific things I must have or can I just buy one?

    Cheers.

You need to be registered as a business (your business number is required), OR you can register your own name (if it's not already taken, and some can request a scan of your passport/drivers licence) and there's a few other ways of getting them but I don't think you can register any auld domain name

It completely depends on your criteria.

The simplest way is if you have a limited company, or trade in some capacity and have a registered business number. This can be checked online and typically no documentation is needed once you can supply the registered business number and the registered business name is similar or the same as that of the domain you wish to purchase.

In the case that you want to buy myname.ie, personal domains are being introduced and plenty of hosting providers are accepting pre-orders for these (they won't go live until October 31st). There are strict criteria as to what you can order however and you must send in documentary proof (copy of drivers license, passport, utility bill etc.) of your name.

    See http://www.iedr.ie/PDN.php for more information.

Most Irish hosting companies are very familiar with the .ie process and will help you over the phone with your registration criteria.

LetsHost.ie @€;24.99 (30.24 incl VAT). Shop around if you're getting hosting as well, as there might be cheaper. Watch out for renewal pricing (Let's Host, for e.g. have a renewal price of 37.99, making them a bit more expensive than others).
