Jobs are great. Though you do have to finish college first before you'll get one. That's a real pain in the butt. Unless you wanna work in Supermacs that is

You might want to improve your typing skills, or possibly improve your grammar.

Otherwise this course won't suit you.

That is a bit unfair sunnyjim.

Its a bit like saying, you didn't do Chemistry for leaving cert so you shouldn't do the chemistry course. First year is an introduction, he will pick it up easily, like anything.

    hi
I completed this course 3 years ago so things might have changed a little bit since then but....its an ok course.
In fairness its quite an easy course - and there's not many hours to it. When I did it, it was a 4 year course - but i think there were plans to condense it to a 3 years course....not sure if thats happened - but its probably a good idea.

The only problem I had with this course was its abit like the phrase - jack of all trades master of none.....you get to dabble in a LOT of different things and just when you think you're getting a handle on it..the module's over.

If you've done your research into the course and still think its the one for you then i'd say go for it!

Personally if i could time travel back and redo my CAO , I would....but thats just me. !

what would you have re-done it to, out of interest.

That is a bit unfair sunnyjim.

Not really. Most of the course for first years is more based around actual written work. The multimedia related projects are quite simple, take photos, edit a small video together or make a basic cartoon using shockwave.

The rest of the course requires a lot of writing, identifying and analyzing of media and being able to write about this in certain styles. This is generally the part that a lot of people (including myself) fall down on. I might have me some skillz when it comes to designing stuff in fireworks and photoshop etc. but its the writing element which is infinitely harder.

I would back sunnyjim and recommend you brush up on your typing and grammar as well as English as you will be doing a lot of typing, reading and writing during the course year.

Leave the grammar out of it, I'm sure he can write properly when he wants to, most people who use text speak can. And it looks like he was in a hurry.

"Thank you. That person is a waster."

I may have seen you type that :|.

Anyway, people need to stop freaking out about text speak, it's just short hand. Same as IMO and LMAO and stuff.....

The guy is probably 17/18... And he's making extremely important enquiries about his college choice, and hoping to appeal to people by writing ****e?

I'm sorry, I may have wasted plenty of time in school and university, but at least I came out with a basic grasp of english. Yet...
thank you !! such a waster tat lad!

I'm the waster? So tell me Shakespeare, what have you been doing in school all these years? lurning enlish, ?? woA, a job aw8tz u In tat evur xcitng feeld of Multimejia !!

He will pick up what easily, his native language? (assumption, but probably correct) It's not as if I'm asking the guy to write everything in Iambic Pentameter, just proper pronunciation! (I was gonna edit out that final word, but then I'd be caught out... Chalk 1 up against me)

But I'll stop now, and I'll even be nice to the guy.

it's a forum. Perfect English is not essential on them, it's not like the head of the course will say " oh my god he used bad grammar on an internet forum he's not getting into this course".

Even if he does have bad grammar or spelling, it is just a bad habit which will be kicked fairly quickly if he gets the course.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 382 ✭✭seaner

i've done the course - having bad grammar won't affect you at all. Yes you need to do a lot of written stuff the first year....but first year marks count for sh*t....so when it comes to the major project....a good video / photograph / audio composition will get you a lot farther along than being able to type up the report that goes along with it well.

    Honestly.

And I'd like to reiterate that using text speak does not necessarily mean a person doesn't have a basic grasp of english, just that they choose not to use it under informal circumstances.

I don't know the OP I'm just saying this in general :)
