Maybe Ireland now finally joins the Schangen Area. AFAIK so far the Common Travel Area agreement with the UK was the main reason not to do so.

No more travelling up north to Belfast without a passport either. Could we see the return of those nasty looking border control towers once again?

At the end of the article:
It is not expected that the British government will try to implement the new system at the border between the Republic and Northern Ireland, as it would be too difficult to police.

It makes sense I reckon. I usually would never have traveled to the UK without my passport anyway, mainly because I don't have a drivers license.

Oops, I missed that part as ireland.com mentioned nothing about it in the report they had on this story.

I'm sure Ian Paisley and the boys will just love the prospect of having to go through tighter border controls to get over to the "mainland" ;)

As above, no big deal as some airlines only accepted passports anyway.

I refuse to travel in my own country (which i consider the North of Ireland to be as should every Irish person) with a passport, not now,not ever.

Posts like that could persuade me that passport controls on the border might be a good thing.

Same land-mass doesn't mean the same country man. It's part of the UK so rules of traveling between Ireland and the UK apply

    *cough*

This isn't the place for political discussion. Do that in the more relevant places on boards.ie.
