Reasons for saying the SU is crap?

To be honest, I never noticed the SU actually do anything in the last 3 years. Maybe they have made changes that I am unaware of but anytime I heard they were going to do something ie; get smoking shelter built, they never delivered.

I voted 'No' anyway since I think SU is a load of bs to begin with

This is seems to be a problem in all the medium sized colleges in ireland. i think it has something to do with the way funding is handed out. if the SU is in control of its own funding and has its own form of funding they have freedom to do anything they want.
but if the college is in control, they problem becomes apparent that they have to go the board if they want to purchased anything, and if they disagree in anyway they dont give the funding

The GMIT su are in control of their own funds, they dont do much in the college but I can remember a time when the food was totally crap in the college. Its not much better now, but their has been some improvement.

It was well noted last year that the SU is basically controlled by the business school and no one else,so dont think any eng or comp students would get elected..

well then i think eng have to get off their arse and get something done!! combine the 2 schools and take on the business school!

the SU find it hard to make any impact in the college, it's because, the Admin's in the college don't welcome change!, their has been some real good presidents and vice presidents down the years! but the SU just get bullyed around by the rest of the politics in the college!!

You have to think that many I.T's and uni's in the country all suffer the same problems, their is people that aren't interested in making a difference, only interested in them self and the pay at the end of the week!, it's make me sick to see good idea's be stamped down because of idiots that don't care!!

For GMIT SU to improve they need to push like hell in the college, start telling people to F**k o*f! and make the **** hit the fan!!, + the biggest bottle neck in the college is the Finance Dept!, not the money side of things but the system!! and it's never changed in the last 20years!!!

Too Long to see no difference!

Maybe the reason the business school has this so called monopoly is because from what I have seen it's only business students that run for office.
If people have a problem with this, they should either run for office themselves or encourage a worthy candidate to run.

Were the Su responsible for the ball?? Just wondered, cos a group of outreach students didn't know anything about it, would of been nice to get an invite!

What Ball? Are you on about the fashion show that was organised by 3rd year Marketing students

I take it you mean The Clubs and soc's ball last wed?? people were invited by poster's that plastered the canteen/su area, and indeed there was a good few around the college (probably still are the way it takes people so long to take them down!) they had notices in the what's happenin sheet too. if it helps, you didn't miss much, unless you like football and drunks :D
