It was either a new MMOG or Gentoo. Please talk me out of it. :[

Jump on the gentoo love train.

    Why I love it:
    OMG so fast!
    Portage uses all 4 cores!
    No bloat.

    Why I hate it:
    Everything needs configuration.

    Gentoo? Fast?

    /recalls compiling Firefox and OO.org

Actually I love the whole configuration thing, for the most part. Wireless has always been tricky for me, but it's still better than what Ubuntu or Suse ever churned up for me.

Fast running, very slow building! Well not so much faster for me, no quad core or anything fancy but do like the configuring and the very good HOWTOs that tell you how. Trying to install the kde 4 beta now. Going to end in tears, but there's always gnome and fluxbox in the mean time.

Absolutely love portage. Ok, there's the odd error but it really works very well for the most part and overlays allow you to attempt stuff that would be a major headache on other distros.

Also having to configure everything has given me a mush better understanding of how things work and much less reliance on the gui tools, especially for wireless.

Was able to make a custom Live Gentoo CD to get my old laptop with no keyboard or screen up and running.

    Gentoo ftw.

PS. For some reason I now also want to go inter-railing!

You can do a binary install for both if you don't fancy the compile. With a quad core though, all the compiles are lightning fast. *zing*
