    Any strong, clear spirit will do, to be honest.

    To put it in perspective, alcohol prices for wine, beer, vodka etc are only slightly cheaper in Brazil than they are here (including domestic brands), but a litre of cachasa costs about €2. So the only thing that is special about cachasa is that it is cheap.

    The taste of the alcohol is absolutely killed by the lime and sugar.
