Energy Efficient Lighting

The Draft Part L regs are calling for light fittings " that can only take " energy efficient lamps .

This is a pretty good selection of lamps - I must confess that I had not seen the LED GU10 or LED MR16 "spot" lights before.

All of these lamps would be what I would call "replacement" lamps i.e. take the old in efficient lamp out - use one of these .

Now , I may be reading the wording of Draft Regs wrong but it seems to be requiring fittings that that " can only take " energy efficient lamps so presumably there are lamps that will only fit into purpose designed fiitings i.e. new lamp mounting / securing method . Anybody familiar with such products ?

The Draft part L TGD requests that EE fittings are used, you are correct in the assumption that these only take special bulbs, the bulbs above won't fit into them, they take the pinned CFL bulbs.
The key point is the fact that the regs make no reference to types of bulbs that comply, only the TGD. So in terms of compliance a CFL in a standard fitting is compliant.

I have disagreed with this section of the draft part L, its over complicated and less effective than other solutions.

Thanks Mellor - newcomer here , so missed that previous thread . Take your point about Regs vs TGD . Very pertinent .

But taking wording of the draft TGD such as it is - to require EE fittings and EE lamps - have you seen many ( or even any ) of these ?

The guidance in this Draft TGD will be pretty hard to follow if EE lamps / EE fitting combos are not commonly available

TGD vrs is huge here, i haven't seen many. They aren't as readily available. And TGD only calls for one per 25m2, so roughly one in each room, secondary lighting can be anything, I can't comment of the whole country but i often have the main light off and only a lamp on (esp when watching telly or reading)

If I ever get a move on, i'll write an article on the draft and lighting
