Disk Restoring, what software do I need here?

    Hi,

I'm not quite sure what software I need to get my hands on here. I have a number of Windows machines (XP & Vista) and Linux servers. Now each of those machines will have separate functions and I would like to be able to set them up and then basically make a snapshot of their current state, software installed, configuration, etc, so in the event of a disk failing or I simply want to revert back to a previous state I can simply wipe the disk (including partitions) and start over. I see myself needing this more for the Linux servers than anything else. For example I have one box that is a LAMP server, amongst a few other small things, and once I have everything setup and configured, I want to be able to save the state of the machine and have it available to backup if things go pear shaped later.

I'm aware of Norton Ghost (although never used it), but AFAIK this is a Windows app, so can I use this for Linux?.

I am willing to spend a few quid on this piece of software because it is absolutely necessary. I'm also looking for something that will take the work out of system maintenance and restoration.

Any suggestions, as to what I should be looking for? I appreciate any advice you can offer me.

I've continued in my search and I came across Acronis. They seem to offer what I'm looking for, but I've never heard of their brand before. Any experiences with them, or any software suggestions?

Acronis would probably be the second best-known brand.
http://www.feyrer.de/g4u/#whatisit - doesn't really have the functionality of either of the other two, but has better *NIX support...

I use Acronis True Image 10. Works great. I've installed it on Windows but it allows you to image ext3 partitions as well [as well as other file systems]. Images are around 7 GB each [documents are on NAS].
