Martial Arts Options in DubCC

I've just moved back to the Dirty Old Town and am looking to join a Martial Arts club. While I was in London, I did ju jitsu. I really enjoyed all the locks and throws as well as the level of fitness I developed, but I think I would have liked to incorporate some striking and possibly sparring into the training (although we did do some judo style ground fighting).

I'm looking for something in Dublin city centre that might give me the best of both worlds in this regard: locks, throws & fitness along with some striking and possibly sparring of some sort. I know this is a fairly comprehensive wishlist, but any advice would be appreciated.

Not really, sounds like any decent MMA gym will accommodate all your needs. I'm sure some of the lads will be along in a minute with info on their clubs :)

Is KOMA really that close to the CC?

There's SBG Northside out in Baldoyle, on the DART line.

Us - Spartan MMA - in Tallaght, on the 77 bus route and 20/25 min walk from the LUAS stop.

SBG Ireland HQ out in Rathcoole.

Next Generation in Loughlinstown - call Dave Jones on 087-9043852

Three Castles MMA also in Tallaght

All these guys I've trained with and run friendly clubs. My advice would be to pick the environment you like the best.

LOL, it's not that close to YOUR city centre, Grafton Street, outdoor Art exhibitions and lattés. But it is that close to our side of the city. Maybe not 2 minutes but close!

In spite if the fact that it is my gym, I have yet to discover what rail line it is on. It's the one that goes to Ashtown and Maynooth, I know that much!

Thanks! Is it the Arrow or the Dart do you know?

We're about 4 or 5 mins walk up the Ballyboggan Road from the station

Its the Arrow, Irish Rail won't put electricity lines through Cabra in case the locals hook up to them for free power :D

(before anyone jumps on me, I live in Cabra -and I'd be the first to rob free power, heck it works well with NTL :))

www.bujinkan.ie - has all these things.

To the OP - What school of Jujutsu did you study in London as a matter of interest?

I was studying Shorinji Kan. The whole organisation is getting rather big, mostly based out of Universities.

Also, if I'm too lazy/cheap to want to go out and buy a whole new set of gear, what disciplines will let me wear the judo-style gi that I wore for jitsu?

When I do wear a gi in training I wear a Judo gi I bought in Mullens. Does the job just fine. Other than that I just wear a t-shirt and Thai shorts.

Most of our folks wear judo gis. Not too much of a difference.
