just had a few questions hopefully people can help me with. I was reading the FAQ and VOIP setup stickies, and although everything is relevant, i'm just wondering about the current state of things.

1 is the voip router plus normal phone still the best option with regards to quality?

2 If there are very good softphones out there now, which ones are they, or what should we be looking for?

3 what do people think of these routers: Netgear WGR615V and Linksys WRTP54G? are there other ones which should be considered before these?

4 will routers bought abroad (ebay) which are unlocked work here?any particular things to look out for?

thanks in advance for any help

    1. Most people use an ATA ( analogue telephone adapter... ) and keep their existing modem / router which they got from eircom / bt / ntl ect

    2. Blue face recommend X-lite, which seems to work quite well... the only pain is that you need to have your PC on to receive calls..

    3. Haven't a clue about either of them routers...

    4. Yep myself and a few people i know are using ATAs from ebay, we are using linksys PAP devices with blue face..

thanks mate, will take your advice on board. i'm torn though as most of my friends and family are abroad and use skype so might have to take the skypepro option and get a softphone (although this kills me to get a skype only)

Snom 360 softphone is very good, I only used it for a VoIP WLAN project but it was easy to use and reliable
