I have had them before, fancied changing my green eyes to brown last year and they worked out really cool. Went to specsavers, got the eyetest, freaked myself out for an hour getting the things in  delighted with the outcome :D

What I'm wondering is, is there a place around Dublin that you can get those kooky contact lenses without the 1-2 week wait they put you thru in specsavers? I don't need them to correct vision, they are purely for effect.

Would be great if anyone knew of a place, because it would be cool to have them before Halloween.

    Cheers!

    Yup,
You can get them in Wildcat up the top of Stephens Green,
The only thing is though, they aren't exactly contacts, they don't actually help you see at all. Theyve got a prescription of 0.00 so you'll need to wear glasses on top :)

Cool, i actually dont need them to see because I dont wear glasses. This is great, any idea of cost?

Just to let you know from this website the freshlook colors or colorblends are the best ones to use as they have the strongest color behind them. The rest and particularly the daily colors only enhance your own eye color so while thay are easier to wear (thinner lens) they don't have a dramatic effect. I learned a good bit on lenses from working in Specsavers for two years.

I take it that's 13 per pair? Are they single use or re-usable?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 280 ✭✭Show_me_Safety

    no, 13e each! 26e for a pair.
    they're re-usable.

    singularly...not singley

    :D

I popped into Wildcat on my lunch break and they only have crazy off the wall hallowe'en-esque designs, no normal eye colour :( and they're €18 per eye... Guy told me I'd have to go to a normal opticians for brown ones...

I checked in celestial ring today and for a pair with solution they are €52! I'm really not up for paying that!

    I was checking out http://www.yourlenses.ie

Anyone know if they're reliable and/or good? :)

I use yourlenses.ie for normal prescription lenses, and they are perfectly reliable in my experience.

I got the brown lenses in Wildcat last year, and they were great, not natural looking, but very dramatic.

Advice for those who have green eyes but want them greener, i have green eyes and i got the specsavers green(er) lenses but you see very little difference. i'd go for the wildcat green if they have them, as they stand out much more.

Any Vision Express or good opticians should have them.. you'll need to have an eyetest and contact lens fit to buy them from an optician's though but that would be better for the health of your eyes and you can claim back for the eyetest if you pay PRSI/have a medical card. There's a Vision Express in the Douglas Court S/C and one on Merchants Quay.

I'd love to get some green ones, do they cover blue eyes completely? anyone know where to pick up non-prescription ones. ?..

Be very, very careful with lenses that you don't get from an opticians. You should be professionally fitted with lenses because eyes come in all different shapes and sizes. Cheap lenses from a costume shop could do serious damage.

It depends on the quality of the lens and how darkness of the blue of your eyes.. you'd need to try a pair on to see, they look different on different eyes.

You can get non-prescription ones from any good optician's but you'll need to have an eyetest and contact lens fit beforehand. It's better for the health of your eyes to get them from an optician's though as you know you are getting the best lenses with the best fit for your eyes. You can also claim back for the eyetest if you pay PRSI/have a medical card.

Better to make sure anyway.. they'll measure the curvature of your eyes during the test anyway and contact lenses come in different base curves so even if you don't need prescription lenses at least you know you'll be wearing the correct base curve or fit for your eyes.

Well you'll probably get Freshlook colours as they're made by CIBA vision and are among the best and most popular coloured contact lenses. They come in monthly and daily lenses and so differ in price but I suppose it depends on which would be more convenient for you. Optical retailers charge around €65 for 3 pairs of the monthly lenses so a 3 months supply. The daily lenses usually come in boxes of ten lenses so 5 pairs in a box and most optical retailers charge around €25.

If you're contemplating buying online to save a few € then I'd still get tested by an optician first and then buy the recommended lenses online so at least you know you're wearing the best ones with the right base curve for your eyes.

Thanks super, you're a wealth of information! :D I'll definately go to the optician as I'm too afraid I'd damage my eyes with cheaper one.

No problem.. good to hear you're thinking of going to an optician.. I've heard a few horror stories of people that had bad experiences with coloured and wildeye contact lenses that they bought over the counter without checking with an optician first. Oh and forgot to mention if you intend buying the lenses from an optical retailer and you're a student, make sure you ask for a student discount. I know most Vision Express stores offer up to 30% student discount off contact lenses and glasses so saves a good bit! Not sure about other optical retailers but sure no harm in asking!

It's also worth noting that the Freshlook Colourblend lenses only come in one diameter and base curve, they are quite large and don't fit everyone! They can also be difficult to put in if you aren't really used to lenses, they will take practice!

Is it legal to buy contacts without a prescription or it is just best practice? It's certainly foolish anyway, you could really damage your eyes.
