Thanks John, I was aware of Bus Eireann's Services. I was just wondering if there were any other commuter services such as pricate coaches, which operate from other towns around the country to Dublin???

There is a bus that goes from there to town and back again. it is expensive , but its the most reliable.

Just spoke with a friend of mine who lives there - don't think there are any private coach services either, my friend ended up buying a car

And how does he find the commute in the car? Whats the traffic like?

Most mornings she (sorry, should have said) drives to either the Brock Inn or the Coolquay lodge and parks there and catches any of the buses going into town.

She said that getting from Ratoath to Dublin in the morning is fine but the choices in the evening are limited and that's why she heads for the Ashbourne road.

She gets a bus then from Beresford Place back out the Ashbourne road and drives home.

She said that if you are heading early in the morning you would be better off driving to Ashbourne itself as the buses are full by the time they get to the Brock Inn/Coolquay Lodge.

Traffic into Dublin by car is dire from Rataoth in the mornings. The best ways would be over to the M2 into Finglas, avoid the N3. The other way into town is by the rat runs by Kilbride.

There is also a Bus Eireann bus that goes to the Blanch SC on the half hour I think, would could use that if you were desperate and get 39 bus into town.

I lived there for most of my life, there's a good few buses but most of them annoyingly go through Ashbourne first, then Dublin... they all leave from the Auld Stand. There are also buses going the other way (the Fairyhouse way) but they are less often, from the Post Office. The 103 are from AS and 105 are from PO.

BTW Bus Eireann are terrible in and out of Ratoath so dont get your hopes up if the bus says it will be there at a certain time ha!

Hi, the info on here has been great however I was wondering if someone can tell me the route that the Ratoath Bus takes through the city. From the info I downloaded from Bus Eireann - the 105, it seem to say that the morning bus goes to St Stephens Green but back it leaves from Beresford Place and does not go near St Stephens Green. I am looking at changing jobs and am trying to figure out best areas. There are some nice jobs in the St Stephens Green area in the area that I a looking for. Any help is very much appreciated. Thanks

I work in the Stephen's Green area myself and commute from Ashbourne. Most buses in the morning go to Stephen's Green (and some go on to UCD). However all Ratoath and Ashbourne buses leave Dublin from Beresford Place. Of course it'd make sense and be very convenient if they had at least a few going from Stephen's Green, but that's Bus Eireann for you!

I wouldn't be put off applying for jobs just because of that though. Stephen's Green to Beresford Place is maybe a 20 minute walk at most. Good luck!

Thanks K_P for your reply. It puzzled me a bit, but as you say thats Bus Eireann for you. Short of taking a day off from my current job and getting the early bus in to see the route, I tried ringing Bus Eireann to check out the route but they were no help, I even went up to one of the buses whilst parked in Ratoath to ask the bus drive and got nowhere there either. Shame they have no route plan. Does the bus take an hour as stated in the timetable or is this just wishful thinking?

Thanks again for your help, I think I will apply for the jobs.

You could get the 20B or 142 from Stephen's green to Eden Quay/Abbey St which is around the corner from Beresford Place or even the 10 to Phibsborough/NCR and pick up the Ratoath bus from there.

I don't know how long the journey time is unfortunately as I commute from Ashbourne which takes the N2. It's generally about 45 mins in the morning and an hour in the evening (due to fewer bus lanes on the return journey). Ratoath buses take a completely different route though but I would imagine an hour would be about right.

Thanks for all your replies, you've convinced me, I am applying for the jobs. Got to get out of the one I am in, it is driving me bonkers. And quite looking forward to working back in town again.

Hi, its me again. Got new job around Stephens Green and am now checking out bus tickets. Thought I was going to be able to get annual tax saver ticket but someone told me that this was only available on Dublin Bus and the Ratoath bus is a Bus Eireann bus. Trying to find out info on Bus Eireann website if there is any annual bus ticket but it is only showing max 10 journey ticket at €27. Does anyone know if there is an annual ticket.

There is that service. Two things to do...

    * Contact your boss, ask them about it (my sister has it, comes out of her wages, saves loads every year)
    * Check out http://www.taxsaver.ie/

I work on Fitzwilliam place, I drive from Slane to Drogheda and get the train to Pearse, takes an hour.

The annual ticket costs €104 every month through work (tax saver).

It's a real pain driving into the city, much less stressful on the train, plus, you could get the train with your other half :)

Whoever told you that was wrong. BE do point-to-point monthly and annual taxsaver tickets.

The cost of the monthly is 4x the cost of a 10 journey ticket, annual is monthly x12.

For Ratoath - Dublin a monthly is €120, annual is €1440.*

On that you get the tax back, depending on your tax bracket that will be up to 47%

*Based on a 10 journey at €30, the €27 fare you quote includes the 10% discount for buying online.

There is a yearly ticket. It works out good value if using it at weekends etc and remember it will bring your tax down. I commute from Ashbourne to Stephens green and its fine but sometimes in the evening buses can get a little unreliable. I usually get a bus around 4:30 and its fine but it seems to be the buses from about 5:30 to 7 ish than sometimes don't turn up but this is down to bus eireann not leaving enough turn around time. Wouldn't advise getting the bus to blanch as it can take ages and does down the N3 and I think the first one leaves at 8 from Ashbourne. Hope this is some help!
